LE MARCHE, WHERE THE TIME HAS STOOD STILL!

Located central-eastern Italy, stretched between the Adriatic coast and the Apennine mountains, the region of Le Marche is definitely one of Italy's less-known treasures, in part still unspoilt by mass tourism.

Yet t will strike you with the beautiful scenery of its fine beaches, ancient cities, fortresses and hillside villages, where you will feel like time has stood still.

The region has its own airport of Ancona-Falconara, even though Rimini airport which is more convenient to reach the northern Marche.

Alternatively, the airports of Bologna and Rome airport are just 2 or 3 hours away by car.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS

The main city in the region s Urbino, a Renaissance town which still preserves its 15th century atmosphere.


A little further south lies the historical town of Cagli, while, the busiest centres on the coast are Pesaro and the bustling seaport of Ancona. There several good resorts can be found, such as the Renaissance town of Fano, that attract many visitors every year.


Worth a visit is also the town of Recanati, home of the famous Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi, and, heading further south, the city of Ascoli Piceno.


Le Marche also have a lot to offer to those interested in the wonders of nature. Among the major sights that should not be missed are Conero peninsula and Monte Conero, with its small picturesque villages, each with its own characteristic, the Frasassi cave system, one of the finest in Europe and the impressive snow-capped mountains of the Monte Sibillini National Park.
