The region is the northernmost region of Italy, bordering Austria and Switzerland and is best known for the beauty of the most striking mountains in Europe: the Dolomites.

The provinces of the region are Trento, with its mixture of Germanic and Venetian architecture, and Bolzano, which is considered to be one of the best Italian cities to live in.
